Privacy Notice (POPA)

The personal information requested on this form is collected under the authority of Alberta’s Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), the Education Act and its regulations, and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Section 23. This information will be used for the maintenance of the student’s record, for a school board’s obligation to provide students with an education program that meets their needs, to provide a safe and secure school environment and other purposes that relate directly to and are necessary for an operating program or activity, including program placement, determination of eligibility and/or suitability for provincial or federal funding, contact and health related information in the event of problems or emergencies. Personal information may also be provided to the Minister of Education for the purpose of carrying out programs, activities, or policies under their administration (e.g., research, statistical analysis).This information will be treated in accordance with the privacy protection provision of the Protection of Privacy Act. ABLE Charter School – Student Information & Media Consent

Consent is valid for the current school year and may be withdrawn at any time by notifying the school in writing.

Automatic Consent (Opt-Out Model)

At ABLE — the Academy of Business Literacy & Entrepreneurship, student learning is active, visible, and connected to the real world. As part of this, we document and share aspects of student experiences.

Unless you notify us otherwise in writing, you are providing consent for the school to use and share your child’s:

Name (first name and last initial), image, voice, grade, and school-related information
Photographs and video from classroom activities, school programs, and events
Student work (projects, writing, performances, ventures)

This information may be used and shared through:

School communications (emails, newsletters, reports)
School websites and social media
Print and digital publications about ABLE
Presentations, displays, and school events
Community engagement and outreach materials

This allows us to celebrate student growth, document learning, and share the story of ABLE with families and the broader community.

Media & Third Parties

From time to time, approved media or partner organizations may attend school activities. Unless you opt out, your child may be included in photos, video, or interviews that may be published or shared publicly.

Once shared externally, ABLE cannot control further distribution.

Public Events

Events such as performances, athletics, field trips, and ceremonies may be attended by families or the public. Photos or recordings taken by others at these events are outside the school’s control.

Privacy

ABLE collects, uses, and protects personal information in accordance with Alberta legislation, including the Education Act, Access to Information Act (ATIA), and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).

Opt-Out Option

If you do not wish your child to be included in any or all of the above, you must notify the school in writing. Your request will be respected moving forward.

Parent/Guardian Acknowledgement

By completing registration, you acknowledge and accept this consent model for your child unless you choose to opt out in writing.
